We have recently had a team of 26 return from a Costa Rica mission trip with Moviendo Esperanzas. The team delivered shoeboxes, Tom’s shoes, and wheelchairs. To hear more about our amazing experiences, join us at our Mission Share Night on Monday March 18 at 7:00 pm. We’ll also learn more about our February 2020 trip.
At Southview, we believe we are all called to be disciples and “missionaries” as we carry out the arrows of our symbol. Our heart is to see our people changed not only by their experiences overseas but by their experiences here at home as they interact with others in their schools, workplaces and homes.
From May 3-5, we will be taking a team to Camp Chamisall to serve them. We will be doing some construction projects, winter/spring clean up of the camp, and other things to get the camp ready for their ministry this summer.
If you are looking at a way to be an arrow for Christ and serve in some way, we will be having an information meeting on Sunday March 10 at 2:00 pm in Legacy rooms 5/6 for this trip. This trip is open to everyone.
A Vision for Short Term Missions
Short term missions are ministries of service both locally and globally in the areas of relief, development or rehabilitation depending on the needs of the communites we are serving at any given time. This could include:
RELIEF: Urgent and temporary provisions of emergency aid to reduce immediate suffering from natural or made crisis. Examples: Humanitarian Aid, medical clinics & disaster relief (people would have to connect with an organization that is equipped to handle disaster relief).
REHABILITATION: Seeking to restore people and their communities to the positive elements of their pre-crisis condition. The key here is working with the victims as they participate in their own recovery. Examples: Building projects, teaching, discipleship, and medical clinics.
DEVELOPMENT: The process of ongoing change that moves all the people involved – both the “helpers” and the “helped” – closer to being in right relationship with God, self, others, and the rest of creation. Development is not done for people but with people. Examples: Medical clinics, teaching, discipleship, children’s ministry, sports programs, prayer walks, and evangelism.
Upcoming Short Term Missions
Our short-term mission trips will be partnering with Moviendo Esperanzas in Costa Rica. Our trips are open to individuals, couples and families wanting a first-hand experience in making a difference in the lives of others. Our trip will consist of delivering shoeboxes, distributing Tom’s shoes, fitting wheelchairs to several different communities and some minor construction work. Get involved by praying, financially giving or applying to go!
The following short- term teams are now accepting applications; contact Michaela – firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more:
SAC is committed to supporting committed missionaries through the C&MA and other qualified sending agencies. SAC will function as the sending church for a missionary (but not as the sending agency). We have many international workers in our cluster which we pray for on an ongoing basis at our weekend services.
The relationships our C&MA International Workers form with their congregations back home are integral to the way they serve and love the people in their adopted countries. When churches in Canada and International Workers share a vision for a ministry it becomes a gift that affects the congregation’s own faith and understanding of God’s purposes for them in the world. SAC currently has three Seamless Link relationships with International workers that have gone out as arrows from our congregation.
Global Advance Fund
One of the best ways you can help support our International workers on a wide lens context is through the Global Advance Fund. This money goes towards supporting all our International workers across our Alliance Churches.
