From Jesus’ own baptism to his final words to his followers in Matthew’s gospel, we see that baptism is an essential step for every disciple of Christ. At Southview we describe the significance of baptism in three key images:
Identity, Obedience, and Presence.
Baptism symbolizes that through faith in Christ we have been given a new Identity, as a child of God, forgiven and set free from sin.
Baptism is a public declaration that our allegiance has shifted from serving self and sin, to serving Christ and His kingdom. In this way we have chosen to walk a new pathway of Obedience to Christ.
Baptism is a time when we fully embrace (if we have not already) the Presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives as the One who empowers us in Christ-likeness and mission.
For a full explanation of these three guiding concepts, please watch the sermon, “Why Baptism?”
If you’re interested in being baptized at Southview, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
At Southview we view membership as a partnership more than anything else. There are three images we use to describe Southview members/partners:Storytellers: People who know the greater Story of Scripture (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration/New Creation) and how the Christian & Missionary Alliance story, the Southview story, and how their own personal story fits within it
Symbol Bearers : People who carry, uphold and share the reality behind Southview’s Symbol (our vision and mission).
LOL Practitioners: People who are actively engaged in pursuing the 5 core practices in the context of life on life relationships.
It is important to acknowledge that none of these images require you to be a member to live them out, but rather, by becoming a member you are saying you want to be held accountable to each of these. If you have questions about membership or would like to attend the next class please email email@example.com.
